ルノワールがピサロ、モネ、シスレーらとともに印象派展を成立させることになる時代背景と、当時のその評価、さらに印象派展出品画家たちとルノワールの相互の影響関係などをふまえて、その後のルノワール独自の人物表現へ至る道程について考えます。また併せて、明治末期に日本へ紹介されたルノワールの日本美術界への影響、特にルノワールに師事した梅原龍三郎がもたらしたルノワール観について考えます。
