仙台ゆかりの文人・阿部次郎は夏目漱石の門下生でした。しかし他の多くの門下生とは違って、次郎は漱石に対して、師として尊敬しつつも終始一定の批判的距離を置いていました。この特異な師弟関係の背後に何があったのでしょうか。漱石の『それから』に対する次郎の批評を手がかりにして真相を探ってみます。
