The Tohoku Institute of Technology has put up the slogan “From Creation to Integration” since the beginning of this century. As the base of aiming at unity with society, we have established another campus “Ichibancho Lobby” in Higashi-Ichibancho, a busy street famous in Sendai. “Ichibancho Lobby” is operated as a satellite campus that can be loved by the citizens, too. Its first goal is to unify communities and the Institute and to contribute to the development of culture and industry, and to the fostering of excellent human resources. The first floor is for a gallery and a lounge with the street side glass-plated. There we exhibit the results of researches and works by our students, our teachers and staff members and our graduates. We sometimes have lobby concerts played by our brass band club and the Irish Harpists. On the fourth floor is a hall with about 80 seats where we have open college or recurrent study programs free of charge. More than 45,000 people have visited the lobby in total since its establishment.
Operation Aims of Ichibancho Lobby
1.To unite the Institute and communities through exhibitions, meetings, lectures and so on
2.To develop daily and consistent PR to communities from the downtown building
3.To be a place for social education and experiences for our students and social contribution by teachers and staff members
4.To be a base for High School Attached to TOHTECH, the alumni, the society supporting TOHTECH and so on
