The establishment of the Tohoku Institute of Technology was authorized.

April 1964

The Tohoku Institute of Technology was inaugurated.

The Department of Electronics and the Department of Communication Engineering were established.

April 1965

The teacher-training course was opened in the Departments of Electronics and Communication Engineering.

April 1966

The Department of Architecture was established.

April 1967

The Departments of Civil Engineering and Industrial Design were established.

The teacher-training course was opened in the Department of Architecture.

April 1968

The teacher-training course was opened in the Departments of Civil Engineering and Industrial Design.

July 1968

The Data Processing Center was established.

April 1982

The Information Technology Education Center was established.

April 1985

The Informatics Laboratory was established.

April 1990

Futatsusawa Campus was established.

April 1992

The Graduate School of Engineering (Master’s Degree Program) was established.

The Divisions of Communications Engineering, Architecture and Civil Engineering were opened.

The teacher-training course of these divisions was established.

April 1993

The Division of Electronics was opened in the Graduate School of Engineering.

The teacher-training course of the division was established.

April 1994

The Graduate School of Engineering (Doctorate Program)

was established.

The Divisions of Communications Engineering and Architecture were opened.

The Divisions of Electronics and Civil Engineering were opened in the Graduate School of Engineering (Doctorate Program)

June 1997

High-tech Research Center was established.

April 2000

The Division of Industrial Design was opened in the Graduate School of Engineering (Master’s Degree Program).

The teacher-training course of the division was opened.

April 2001

The Department of Environmental Information Engineering was established.

April 2002

The Doctorate Program was opened in the Division of Industrial Design of the Graduate School of Engineering .

The teacher-training course was opened in the Department of Environmental Information Engineering.

April 2003

The Japanese Names of the Departments of Civil Engineering and Industrial Design were changed.

The Doctorate Program was opened in the Division of Environmental Information Engineering of the Graduate School.

The Ninth and the Tenth Buildings were constructed in Kasumicho Campus.

October 2003

Ichibancho Satellite Campus and Office was opened.

April 2004

The name of the Department of Communication Engineering was renewed to the Department of Information and Communication Engineering.

April 2005

The New Technology Creation Research Center was established. The E-Learning Center was established.

April 2007

The name of the Department of Electronics was changed to the Department of Electronics and Intelligent System.

April 2008

The Undergraduate Course of Life Design was established.

The Department of Creative Design, the Department of Safely Reliable Life and the Department of Management Communication were established.

The recruitment of the Department of Industrial Design was suspended.

The name of Kasumicho Campus was renamed Yagiyama Campus and the name of Futatsusawa Campus was renamed Nagamachi Campus.
